I can't directly address the mitsumi CD, as all I have ever used are SCSI based CD's. However, I have seen the error about not a block device whenever I try
to mount either an empty drive or a music CD. Make sure you have a
mountable CD. present during bootup. Or whenever you try to mount the CD.

As far as using the Linux CD's I can only state with experience about the Info Magic releases but I assume all the current ones would have a similar capability. If you can access the CD from any OS, DOS, Linux, Windows 95.
you will be able to read the CD and it will have on it the necessary utilities to setup and configure Linux for your system as long as you have one of the supported drives. They will usually a bootable version of linux that will work for a supported drive/controller combination. I have installed Linux from Dos using a multimedia kit for DOS and the Infomagic Linux disc set.
	Good Luck

Hi,
As I mentioned before I have a CD that is connected to a separate IDE
controller that has a jumper settings to mitsumi CD, and linux can't
recognize it on anything, I tried the rc.cdrom but it writes not a block
device, when I get my CD linux I won't be able to install it, so how can
I make my CD-Rom work with linux 1.2.13
