Whoops, looks like I somehow managed to send an empty message. Here was what
was supposed to be in it:

OK here comes a stupid question (but, hey, it's a result of a rather
uninformative error message, so there! :)

I just installed gated on my system "electron", with the idea in mind of
making it the router for my home network. I have a ppp connection to an
ISP with electron, and I want to be able to access the internet with my other
machine, "positron", as well (which is connected via thinnet). Well, here's
what appears in /var/adm/messages when I try to start gated:

Jan 25 23:23:56 electron gated[106]: Start gated[106] version R3_5Alpha_11 built Sat Jun 17 19:55:32 CST 1995
Jan 25 23:23:57 electron gated[106]: Abort gated[106] version R3_5Alpha_11: No such file or directory

What file do you 'spose it can't find? I do have an /etc/gated.conf, and ran
it with "-f /etc/gated.conf" just to be sure that wasn't what it couldn't find.

The system is stock slackware 3.0.0 with kernel 1.2.13. Gated is yesterday's
download from sunsite. I had to get the man pages and docs from the "gated
consortium" web page because it wasn't included, but it appears we are talking
about the same version, except that the linux build is a bit behind the times
(alpha 11 versus beta 2).
