A good question you ask there.. Why if its alledgly your modem does minicom and
windows work..  I went through this this last weekend, when I upgraded the
pppd (I usethe one that came with slackware 2.3)..  The new pppd dropped my 
connect, so I had to get an older copy to put in its place..  Dont know what
is wrong with the new one, but I do know that it drops my connects, so I
dont use it..  

My suggestion to you is to use an older one..  I got mine off a sunsite 
mirror somewhere..

the one with slackware 2.3 works..
