I send this here mainly because it seems to be the only list that is
still working (odd that), but I've had some thoughts on several areas
that don't appear to be under consideration in resolving problems with
vger (judging only from the snippets of gossip I've picked up).
1. The problem could be further up the line. I live only an hours drive
from Rutgers and my ISP started having major outgoing mail problems
around the same time that vger started going wrong this last time. It
turned out to be a problem with one of the internet suppliers to my ISP
(MCI if I recall correctly)
2. The recent bitter flame wars on the comp.os.linux.* newsgroups could
well have incited some of the crackers using competing OS'es to take the vger
down. (Or Bill Gates may have gotten nervous about Linux and had it done
(grin))
The loss of the gcc-digest and kernel-digest is really quite a blow to Linux
in my opinion -- without my morning "progress fix" I don't really feel quite
so confident that some of the problems remaining (minor and self fixable as
they may be given the availability of source code) are being worked on.
