Sorry. I am resending the message because I haven't received any answers
or suggerences.
Hi all linuxers ! 8-) Need some help.
I have been using kernels 1.3.* till 1.3.34 with more or less success.
kernel 1.3.34
-------------
* a.out
* I can use it with ppp-2.2.0a and ppp-2.2.0c and ppp access works, with
Cyclades cards.
Problem:
-my system crashes every couple of days with this kernel, due to a
"kernel: kill_fasync: bad magic number in fasync_struct!" -any idea?-.
After this message appears, no one can login by phone, neither root
through console. We have to reboot the computer and start up again.
We couldn't go on so and decide to change to 1.3.4*, but...
kernel 1.3.4* `[42, 43, 45]
---------------------------
* a.out
* ppp-2.2.0a and ppp-2.2.0c
Problem:
-My system does not route any packet. It allows access to itself, but you
cannot get out there using ppp access -I run gated, promise-.
No matter if the client is Windoze, Gates or Linux.
Ppp logins and scripts are the same than they used to be... and they
worked -in fact they work, because we have gone back to 1.3.34; at least
we can do something some time-.
What am I missing? -guess something with firewalls/forwarding-
BTW, here are my choices for kernel configuration:
NO_FIREWALL
IP_FORWARDING
IP_MULTICASTING ('cause of gated)
-------------------------------------------
#
# Networking options
#
# CONFIG_FIREWALL is not set
CONFIG_INET=y
CONFIG_IP_FORWARD=y
CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST=y
# CONFIG_IP_ACCT is not set
# CONFIG_NET_IPIP is not set
# CONFIG_IP_MROUTE is not set
-------------------------------------------
PPP linked into the kernel (no module)
NO_SLIP
-------------------------------------------
#
# Network device support
#
CONFIG_NETDEVICES=y
CONFIG_DUMMY=m
# CONFIG_SLIP is not set
CONFIG_PPP=y
-------------------------------------------
Thank you very much.
I'd appreciate answers being cc'ed to myself: linux-ppp@readysoft.es
