[ Moderator's note: I have been sending comp.os.linux.announce articles
to the ANNOUNCE channel of the linux-activists@niksula.hut.fi mailing
list. For quite some time now, we have also had a new list,
linux-announce@vger.rutgers.edu. I don't know how many people are on
either list. I will stop sending articles to the Niksula list
after today's batch.
While I'm on the air, dept: My comp.os.linux.announce WWW page at
http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/~wirzeniu/linux/cola.summary.html now also
has a companion page with only the subjects. Both pages also have
links to copies of the articles (stored at cs.helsinki.fi). This is
not an archive, and old articles may be removed, but the newest stuff
will always be there.
I'd also like to thank the Niksula maintainers for living with the
old Linux mailing lists there for so long. --liw ]

The Linux Activists mailing lists at niksula.hut.fi will be closed
August 11th 1995.
We think that the current state of the lists is unacceptable because
- the list handler software is hard to use and breaks about once a
month, causing everyone a lot of annoyance
- we receive hundreds of error replies a day because of bad
destination addresses
- nobody has been really administering the lists for some time
Due to the reasons mentioned above, we see that it is no longer
sensible to continue running the lists in their current state. The
reorganisation evidently needed would take too much of our work time.
The mail volume of the lists has also fallen a lot during the last
year because most of the sensible conversation has moved to similar
but properly administrated lists at vger.rutgers.edu. If you don't
know about these alternative lists, see Linux FAQ question 2.8. It
is available at URL:
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/users/iwj10/linux-faq/section2.html
Comments regarding this course of action should be sent to the
address linux-activists-shutdown@niksula.hut.fi, although we may
be unable to answer all replies.
This message has been sent to all current subscribers of
linux-activists@niksula.hut.fi and to comp.os.linux.announce and
comp.os.linux.misc newsgroups.
