ANNOUNCEMENT

Yggdrasil Computing has made its development tree for
Plug-and-Play Linux publicly accessible on the internet. This
includes complete source code and ELF binaries. The development tree
is accessible by both FTP and NFS.

CONTENTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT TREE

The development tree includes complete sources and binaries.
Nothing is being held back. Even the source code for Yggdrasil's
graphical control panels is included. Most of the Yggdrasil-specific
resources are in /usr/lib/yggdrasil. Other interesting highlights
include an ELF buildable kernel in /usr/src/linux, and ELF ports of
Andrew and Postgres.

/usr/src containts the source tree. /usr/src/install.log
maps installed files to their locations in /usr/src. The shell script
/usr/bin/whence uses this file. You will need to copy
/usr/src/install.log onto your machine to use whence. Example:

	% whence ls
/bin/ls: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1, stripped
	/bin/ls installed from /usr/src/file-utilities/fileutils-3.12/src/ls

The source tree is updated in real time. The binaries are
updated every few days, after a complete build. We cannot guarantee
that everything in the development tree will work at any given moment.
The contents of this tree are in constant flux and are not always
consistent. This service is intended to assist the LINUX developer
community. It should not be relied on by end-users or production
systems.

We are interested in integrating other pieces of free software
into this source tree that are covered by a copyright conditions not
more restrictive than version 2 of the GNU General Public License.

WHERE TO GET IT:

        NFS:

   mount -o ro ftp.yggdrasil.com:/home/ftp/pub/development-trees/Plug-and-Play /mnt

        Anonymous FTP:

   ftp://ftp.yggdrasil.com/pub/development-trees/Plug-and-Play

MIRROR SITES WANTED

We expect this free service to become more popular as people
become accustomed to using it. ftp.yggdrasil.com has access only to
part of the bandwidth of a T1 line right now. If you have a fast
internet connection and would be willing to allow us to put a machine
at your site, then please contact us. This should be an easy way for
an internet provider to gain visibility in the Linux community.

CAVEATS

        1. This service is intended to assist the LINUX developer
community. It is not recommended for end-users or
           production systems.

        2. If you do not know what you are doing, you will probably be
frustrated, especially if you have not installed ELF.

        3. For the time being, please send bug fixes to
bug-fixes@yggdrasil.com and to the author or maintainer of
the software that you have fixed.

        4. Please do not ask us for free technical support (even
"just a quick question") unless you are the principal
author or maintainer of a piece of free software in our
development tree and your request pertains to your
software. We are happy to sell technical support, however.
For information on our technical support services, please
send an empty email message to tech-support-info@yggdrasil.com.
