This is an announce for the second official version of MD, a
device driver that groups several hard disks or partitions into a
single block device, so it is now possible to have files that grow
across devices.
What's new in this version :
First of all, striping is now supported (something very
similar to RAID-0). This should give better performances with SCSI
disks. Size of chunks can be ajusted to fit your needs. Old good
'linear' mode is still supported. The driver is now known to be very
stable (at least with 'linear' mode, since lots of people reported it
was working fine and didn't got a single bug report). I use striping
since 3 weeks without a single problem, but since all this is still
ALPHA, caveat emptor... Still using block major number 30, but asked
H. Peter Anvin <Peter.Anvin@linux.org> to allocate md an official
major number.
Thanks to:
All the fine people that sent me success story and docs, and
everybody at P7 (the Bitos Dream Team) for friendship, disks and
Guiness.
