<!--Detectives believed that Holly had been killed sometime after midnigh=
t, and they said that no bus passengers had arrived at the station prior to=
her murder. Although one bus arrived at the station while police were at t=
he scene, no passengers had disembarked; the bus had stopped so the driver =
could deliver a package to the Greyhound bus terminal. Over the next three =
days, investigators with the Granbury Police Department would spend more th=
an 200-man hours on Holly?s case. They interviewed Holly?s relatives, frien=
ds, and acquaintances, and at least one of her acquaintances was given a po=
lygraph examination, which they passed. Detectives reached out to the news =
media for help in identifying a woman who had been seen at the bus station =
between 1:30 and 2:00 pm on Saturday. They stated that the woman was not a =
suspect, but they believed she might have seen something that could be of u=
se to investigators. After reading an article in the local paper, this woma=
n reached out to detectives; although they said she provided them with valu=
able information, they declined to specify what she had told them. On Frida=
y, a team of crime scene investigators from the Texas Department of Public =
Safety arrived at the bus station; although the Granbury Police Department =
had processed the crime scene earlier in the week, they wanted to make sure=
that nothing had been missed and officials had asked the Department of Pub=
lic Safety for assistance. The bus station itself remained closed to the pu=
blic; all buses were rerouted through the Stephenville station. Investigato=
rs sent the clothing that Holly had been wearing when she was murdered to t=
he Austin Police Department as they had a laser fingerprint detection devic=
e; officials were hopeful that the device might be able to find fingerprint=
s on Holly?s clothing that hadn?t been visible to the naked eye. By Decembe=
r 10, investigators admitted that they were no closer to making an arrest t=
han they had been on the night of the murder. Although the name of one pote=
ntial suspect came up repeatedly during the course of their investigation, =
they stated that they had no physical evidence linking this person to the c=
rime.=20
Who Killed Holly? sign (Photo credit: www.reddit.com)
Detectives traveled to Oklahoma during the second week of December to speak=
with a former acquaintance of Holly?s who lived there. This person was int=
erviewed and polygraphed; investigators left Oklahoma confident that the fo=
rmer acquaintance had no involvement in Holly?s murder. Over the next week,=
investigators announced that they had been able to eliminate three potenti=
al suspects in Holly?s murder, but still had three more possible suspects u=
nder investigation. They were still waiting for lab test results from their=
crime scene analysis and were hopeful that the results would be able to he=
lp them identify the killer. Detectives noted that they had been unable to =
determine Holly?s whereabouts between 4:30 pm Saturday and when her body wa=
s found. They were still unsure of the exact time of her murder, and they h=
ad been unable to verify who had been the last person to see her alive. It =
was possible that Holly had left the bus station to go to a restaurant or o=
ther store in Granbury or Hood County; anyone who had seen Holly or her sig=
nature orange Volkswagen bug was asked to call investigators. Although dete=
ctives received a few calls, there were no confirmed sightings of Holly tha=
t day. The holiday season arrived, but Holly?s family had little reason to =
celebrate. There had been no movement on her case and her murderer was stil=
l at large. In January, Hood County Crime Stoppers announced that they were=
offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and convict=
ion of Holly?s killer. The prospect of a financial reward brought in a numb=
er of tips to police, but none of them led them any closer to identifying t=
he killer. In February, detectives reported that the analysis of fingerprin=
ts found at the crime scene was complete. Seven potential suspects ? includ=
ing the unnamed prime suspect ? had been eliminated as a result of the fing=
erprint analysis. Investigators had been unable to find any matches for any=
of the bloody prints that had been found at the murder scene; at the time,=
there was no computerized fingerprint database, so investigators were forc=
ed to start the tedious process of comparing their prints to those already =
on file. They submitted the prints to the FBI for comparison with their dat=
abase, but there were no matches. By June 1989, it appeared that Holly?s ca=
se was starting to go cold. Hood County Crime Stoppers, with the help of do=
zens of local volunteers, handed out thousands of reward posters to remind =
people that Holly?s killer was still out there somewhere. Detectives contin=
ued to work the case daily, but admitted that they still needed more inform=
ation before they would be able to solve it.--->=20
