SoftCraft 1.1beta Linux
5 Beta sites are wanted to evaluate yet-another-linux distribution
which is meant to bring into the the world of system administration
what is analogous to s/w developers and engineers as configuration
management.
The installation itself relies on a program (genesis) which later
can only be matched in functionality with standard sysadmin programs
such as: fdisk, mke2fs, mkswap, craft (more to follow) and others.
The built-in 'craft' program like its stand-alone counterpart looks
at the operating system as being composed of components which can be
installed/replaced/removed/checked-for-integrity.
Components are original SoftCraft Linux components and optionally
site specific. For the roll-out (version 1.1) there are 26 planned
components.
Choosing anywhere from a bare minimum (base approx. 34 MB) which
provides for a Linux without development tools but rich in functionality
for a single node otherwise, an install all (approx. 140 MB without
sources), to anything in between provide for accountability and sum(1)
based integrity check thereon for each part of what's installed.
The internet citizens whose contribution will be included with the
distribution and beta sites will receive version 1.1 CD-ROM with our
thanks and gratitude.
