Replacement for "modules-1.1.85" released: "modules-1.1.87.tar.gz"
------------------------------------------------------------------
An updated version of the utilities for Linux loadable modules
has been uploaded in the incoming directories at tsx-11.mit.edu
and sunsite.unc.edu. It will probably be moved to its rightful
place quite soon...
The name of the new release is "modules-1.1.87.tar.gz",
and the size is 86172 bytes.
Most _real_ bugs (both of them :-) ) in the previous version:
"modules-1.1.85.tar.gz" have been fixed.
*
* There have been some posts indicating that you should _not_
* enable CONFIG_MODVERSIONS, since that should have been the
* reason for some Makefile problems.
*
* These posts are _not_ correct! The problems were due to a
* Makefile problem alone, and linux-1.1.87 and later corrected
* the "ifdef MODULES" omission in "drivers/char/Makefile".
*
As an extra bonus insmod can now also initialize character pointers
as well as integers. It is also possible to initialize arrays
of integers and/or character pointers:
insmod module.o symbol=int1,int2,string1,int3
Use this feature with extra care, since you _could_ overwrite
values that you really didn't intend to!
See the insmod manual page for more information.
Note that you can now initialize the struct device in a net driver...
It's not exactly like the lilo-parameters, but this might be implemented
in some future release (no promises though).
