-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

This is to announce a new version of taper. Taper is a user friendly
backup program for Linux. It supports floppy and SCSI tape drives,
as well as QIC-02 (in alpha stage) tapes. Multi-tape archives,
incremental backups and most-recent restore options are supported.

Files are selected via a user-friendly interface, similar to that
of Norton Commander (or Mouseless Commander). This version includes
support for unattended backups.

Major changes from Taper 5.3 to Taper 5.4
- -----------------------------------------

* Support for the new zftape driver added - improved version
   of the ftape driver.

* Support for quick fast forwards for tape drives that support
   it (zftape, and most SCSIs)

* Absolute fixed block writing & reading to the tape

*  Unattended backups

* Couple of minor bugs fixed

Title: Taper
Version: 5.4
Entered-date:	17NOV95
Description:	This is a tape backup and restore program that provides
a friendly user interface to allow backing/restoring
files to a tape drive. Alternatively, files can be backed
up to archive files. Selecting files for backup and restore
is very similar to the Mouseless Commander interface and
allows easy traversal of directories. Recursively selected
directories are supported. Incremental backup and automatic
most recent restore are defaults settings. Both SCSI and
floppy tape drives are supported. Information about archives
is stored on the hard disk allowing information about
archives to be obtained without having to have the tape
in the drive. Support for zftape is also included.
