Hey folks, Check it out!
Maelstrom 1.4.1 -- Linux version
You pilot your ship through the dreaded "Maelstrom" asteroid
belt -- the deadliest stretch of space known to mankind. Everywhere
massive asteroids jostle for a chance to crush your ship, and deadly
shinobi fighter patrols persue you across the asteroid belt. As you
penetrate deeper, you find lost cannisters, left by unlucky convoys
and pirate raiders. Old shinobi mines, still active, hunt your ship
as you deftly avoid spinning black holes.
Version 1.1.2: Third Public Release:
* Fixed a slight slowdown bug in mixer.cc (Thanks to
John Seng <jseng@nwu.edu> for catching it.)
* Fixed the "white border" problem on some vga cards (trident)
(Thanks to Antti J Tanskanen <atanskan@cc.helsinki.fi>)
* Fixed a bug in the cheat code, when you enter zero lives.
(Sorry folks. :^)
* Fixed a problem with Maelstrom_sound exiting with signal 11.
* Added Makefile variable toggling compiling SVGA support.
* Added "all-time high" Maelstrom-Scores file.
* Speeded up the screen fade.
* Speeded up Maelstrom with compiler optimization.
* Better installation, and new 'uninstall' Makefile option
Plus!
* Work is in progress on ports to Solaris 2, IRIX 5, and
HPUX 10... Let me know if you want to help! :)
Available NOW, via anonymous ftp from sunsite.unc.edu, currently
in /pub/Linux/Incoming, and from dandelion.ceres.ca.gov in the
directory /pub/Linux/games.
NEW! I'm creating an all-time high scores file to release with this
version of Maelstrom. So, if you want to have your score possibly
in the next release, zap your current high scores and play the
new version. Send me your new score file and I'll merge it with
the all-time high scores.
- ---
Note: To send your scores file:
cd /usr/local/lib/Maelstrom
uuencode Maelstrom-Scores Maelstrom-Scores.new >/tmp/scores
mail slouken@cs.ucdavis.edu </tmp/scores

This is a port of the high resolution "asteriods" style arcade
game written by Andrew Welch for the Macintosh. It is now freely supported
on the Linux platform, courtesy of Sam Lantinga (slouken@cs.ucdavis.edu).
Let me know how it goes for you. :)
See ya!
