JERUSALEM A weekend cyberattack campaign targeting Israeli government websites
failed to cause serious disruption, officials said Sunday. The attacks followed
warnings in the name of the group Anonymous that it was launching
a massive hacking assault to protest Israeli policy toward the Palestinians.Yitzhak
Ben Yisrael, of the government's National Cyber Bureau, said hackers had
mostly failed to shut down key sites."So far it is as was
expected, there is hardly any real damage," Ben Yisrael said. "Anonymous
doesn't have the skills to damage the country's vital infrastructure. And
if that was its intention, then it wouldn't have announced the attack
ahead of time. It wants to create noise in the media about
issues that are close to its heart," he said.Posters using the name
of the hacking group Anonymous had warned they would launch a massive
attack on Israeli sites in a strike they called (hash)OpIsrael starting
April 7. Some said they were launching the assault in "solidarity" with
the Palestinians.Israel's Bureau of Statistics was down on Sunday morning
but it was unclear if it was hacked. Media said the sites
of the Defense and Education Ministry as well as banks had come
under attack the night before but they were mostly repelled. An Israeli government
spokesman issued a statement saying sites were operating properly as usual.
It said an Education Ministry site was down temporarily due to a
technical issue unrelated to hacking attem
A constitutional attorney says the possibility that Foxnews.com reporter
Jana Winter could go to jail for refusing to reveal her sources
for a story in the aftermath of the Aurora movie massacre is
enough for the government to re-evaluate state Shield laws.David Rivkin,
who appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday, said there needs to be
a national solution that would never put any reporter in that situation. In
2012, Winter wrote an exclusive story detailing how alleged gunman James
Holmes sent a package to a University of Colorado psychiatrist that included
a notebook "full of details about how he was going to kill
people," according to one of her sources.Rivkin said Holmes lawyers believe
they wont get a fair trial if they dont know Winters source. Its
a very weak argument, Rivkin said.Rivkin explained that New York, where
Winter is based, has an Absolute Shield Law that protects reporters from
revealing their sources. However, New York courts decided that Winters situation
should be looked at under Colorado Shield laws, which contain exceptions
that may allow reporters to testify. This whole story to me demonstrates
that there is a need for a national solution, Rivkin said.Click for

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">ROME A corner of a big Rome piazza, known for hosting
free rock concerts and political rallies, will be renamed after late pontiff
John Paul II, with Pope Francis coming to the unveiling ceremony Sunday. While
Francis instantly proved to be a crowd pleaser about 100,000 people
turned out in St. Peter's Square Sunday and a nearby street for
his noon blessing the mention of the widely beloved John Paul
still prompts affectionate cheers. When Francis noted that John Paul "closed
his eyes to this world" exactly eight years ago this month, in
2005, the new pope drew so much applause, he couldn't finish his
sentence as he spoke from the papal studio window overlooking St. Peter's
Square.Francis invited people to join him later in Rome's main church, St.
John in Lateran Basilica. Pontiffs are also the bishop of Rome, and
a traditional installation ceremony at the basilica formally recognizes
that Francis is Rome's bishop as well as the leader of the
worldwide Roman Catholic church. Before entering the basilica, Francis was
scheduled to attend the unveiling of a plaque on a corner of
the square near the church, naming that part of the piazza after
John Paul. The late pontiff enthusiastically embraced his role as Rome's
bishop, visiting hundreds of city parishes on Sunday mornings.Francis might
be the pope who decides whether another miracle has been attributed to
John Paul's intercession, which would enable the late, Polish-born pontiff
to e
omatic spending cuts that are otherwise poised
to take effect over the next 10 years.Counting reductions and higher taxes
that Congress and Obama have approved since 2011, the 2014 budget would
contribute to a total $4.3 trillion in total deficit reduction by 2023.The
key deficit reduction elements of the plan incorporate an offer Obama made
to Boehner in December as both men sought to avert an impending
"fiscal cliff" of automatic, across the board spending cut and broad tax
increases.Obama's plan has two central features -- $580 billion in new taxes
that Republicans oppose and a new inflation formula, rejected by many liberals,
that would reduce the annual cost of living adjustments for a broad
swath of government programs, including Social Security and benefits for
veterans. In his address, Obama said he would achieve deficit reduction by
making "tough reforms" to Medicare and by enacting "commonsense tax reform
that includes closing wasteful tax loopholes for the wealthy and well-connected."Obama,
however, made no mention of the effect his budget would have on
Social Security and on other social safety net programs, a key feature
of his proposal and one that drew hostile reaction from some of
his most ardent political backers.Obama rejected a House Republican budget
that aims to balance the budget in 10 years with steep cuts
in domestic spending. His remarks reflected the White House's argument that
Obama's blend of tax increases and
