A woman died Thursday after her scarf and her hair got caught
in the teeth of a Montreal metro escalator and the scarf then
apparently strangled her.The Montreal Gazette reports that the incident
occurred when the 48-year-olds scarf got caught in the escalator Thursday
morning. The womans scarf got caught in the escalator and then she bent
down to try to get it out and her hair got stuck,

and by the time police arrived, she was declared dead. The Gazette said
she apparently was strangled by the scarf.Bob Lamle, a spokesman for Montreal's
ambulance service, said Thursday he had never seen anything like it in
his 30-year career. The firefighters, first responders, got there first and
began resuscitation efforts. Our technicians arrived and took over but it
was not viable and the woman was declared dead, Lamle said. There is
an emergency stop button at the top and bottom of the escalator,
as in all escalators serving the system. Constable Brabant said he did
not know whether anyone pressed the stop button while the woman, who
was not identified, struggled.Metro users were shocked by the news that
someone could die while doing something most of them do several times
a day.Personally, Im really traumatized because I use that escalator every
day, 13-year-old Philippe Silyutintold The Gazette as he was standing with
friends outside the Fabre station entrance while police in

Typically just one tablespoon of concentrated grayanotoxin can cause the
symptoms above. Consuming multiple tablespoons would be a bad idea.iStockThe

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">FLORENCE, Italy Police on Friday found Amanda Knox's ex-boyfriend near
Italy's border with Slovenia and Austria, hours after he and the American
student were convicted for a second time in the death of British
student Meredith Kercher.Raffaele Sollecito's lawyer, Luca Maori, said his
client was in the area of Italy's northeastern border because that's where
his current girlfriend lives, and that he went voluntarily to police. However,
the cabinet chief of the Udine police station, Giovanni Belmonte, said police
showed up at about 1 a.m. Friday at a hotel in Venzone,
a tiny town of 2,200 about 40 kilometers from the border, where
Sollecito and the girlfriend were staying. They brought him to the Udine
police station, took his passport and put a stamp in his Italian
identity papers showing that he cannot leave the country, as mandated by
the appeals court in Florence.Since the court didn't order Sollecito detained,
he will be freed as soon as the paperwork is completed, Belmonte
said. He said Sollecito was calm and came willingly to the station,
with his girlfriend driving behind.Asked if police thought he might have
planned to flee the country, Belmonte said: "We don't know his intentions."
But he said police were tipped off to his presence in the
hotel and came immediately. In Italy, adults checking into hotels must hand
over ID upon check-in. Hotels are then required to communicate the information
to local police. The court in Florence on
HELENA, Mont. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena, Mont., is filing
for bankruptcy protection amid lawsuits that claim clergy members abused
362 children over decades.Diocese spokesman Dan Bartleson said in a statement
Friday the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization case will help resolve the
abuse claims. The diocese covers western Montana and employs about 200 people. The
two lawsuits filed in 2011 claim clergy members abused the children from
the 1930s to the 1970s. They claim the diocese shielded the offenders
and knew or should have known the threat they posed. The plaintiffs, the
diocese and the Ursuline Sisters of the Western Province held three mediation
sessions, but the talks faltered with challenges by the church's insurers
over the claims they must cover.
