MakeTeXPK doesn't seem to be installed anywhere, which is too bad
because dvips isn't kidding about the extremely poor output gotten
from scaling. I put the only MakeTeXPK I could find in my path
(/afs/sipb/project/tex/install/.pmax_ul4/bin/MakeTeXPK), and got an
error that it didn't like the "mode." It says I should have my
"system admin update MakeTeXPK"... I've run into this problem a bunch
of times in the last several years, mostly when making graphics for
conference poster titles that need to be read several feet away.
Perhaps there's a better way to make banner graphics, but it would be
good for this stuff to work. I think xtex had a problem of the same
kind at one point, though I haven't played with that in a long time
(it was John Carr's thing).
