Hi,

I have been trying to "talk" to a Japanese friend of mine in Bitnet. he's
in Waseda University in Tokyo. I don't have any problem getting the messages
to him using "bwrite userid@JPNWAS00", but there seems to be a problem when
he tries to send me his messages. he told me that he had tried:
TELL USER AT MITSIPB The text of the message, and
SEND USER@MITSIPB The text of the message
but they don't seem to work. and as for "tell", he gets no error messages
(obviously). I have tried to contact him through internet using
"userid@JPNWAS00.WASEDA.AC.JP", but I don't think he has an internet account,
so it didn't work. I don't have any trouble with getting email to him through
"userid%JPNWAS00.BITNET@mitvma.mit.edu" either. could it be that "some
BITNET nodes don't recognize the name MITSIPB, and therefore can't send
any messages to us."? (from online help page) or should he look around in
the system there to see what program is compatible with bwrite? I have friends
who have been able to "bwrite" to other friends on Bitnet, but the repondent
has to use "chat" which is kind of system dependent. what do you suggest?

here is some net info for the internet node there:
  JPNWAS00; no aliases; 1479; machine type unknown; VM/SP; RSCS/NETDATA,
PUNCH, NETDATA; Waseda University, JPN; Masayuki Shouji,
       OKUMA@JPNWAS00; BITNET

thanks

Sean
