When you use PostScript fonts in TeX, the usual methods use a different
encoding of font position to glyph.  For example, if you did manage to
get a preview of a PS-TeX dvi file, a bunch of the special glyphs
whose positions differ in the TeX and PS encodings will look wrong (such
as, I believe, fi, fl, and maybe em- and en-dash, and others)
