As you all by now know, rosebud, SIPB's RS/6000 AFS server went down
yesterday for diagnostics, the result of which was that the root disk
was replaced early this morning. Right now, Rosebud has it's new,
unformatted root disk, and is waiting for someone who can figure out
how to reinstall the machine, since it needs to be installed at
AIX3.1, since none of the servers and hence none of the server
binaries were ever upgraded to AIX3.2, and the `standard' AIX3.1
install methods (both of them) fail. What this means:
o The various AFS databases shouldn't be changed, for consistency
reasons.
o Several volumes are offline, most notably:
- project.outland (and thus the outland locker)
- contrib.emacs, contrib.perl (and thus /afs/sipb/contrib/*)
- project.gnu, priject.gnu.src, and gnu.bld.*.nb (and thus
/afs/sipb/project/gnu)
- project.discuss (discuss locker)
- project.sipbsrc.*.nb (and thus all the build volumes)
- project.zhongwen (zhongwen locker)
- user.mhpower (only user volume)
o Someone Who Knows(TM) will have to come in and install the machine.
Questions should probably go to the respective bug lists, or to
sipb-afsreq for general questions.
