You got mail yesterday saying the rosebud had to be serviced. Several
solutions were discussed. Chad, being sick and having had 2 hours of
sleep in the preceeding 48, went home in the evening, safe in the
knowledge that Someone(TM) would deal.
When Chad arrived at w20 at 10:45 this morning, No One(TM) had done
anything, and the Atlantic Bell service rep was on his way over, and
rosebud had to go down. After a quick discussion on the sipb
instance, Marc took rosebud out of ronald-ann's CellSrvDB, shut down
the AFS processes on rosebud, and Derek sent out a filsrv, and Chad
shut down the machine, so the disk diags could be run. (no, not in
that order. :-) The result of this:
o Rosebud's hdisk2 failed to even make it through the diags; quitting
with 11 unrecoverable errors.
o Atlantic Bell's service rep will call the SIPB office at 9 am
tomorrow morning, and then bring over our new drive between 9 and
10.
ROSEBUD WILL NEED TO GO DOWN THEN, AND EVERYTHING IMPORTANT WILL
NEED TO BE SOMEWHERE ELSE.
o People found out that Athena isn't supporting their new printers
properly, because the 600DPI fonts are in outland, which is
nonreplicated. Discussion to bug-sipb and bug-outland.
Rosebud then came back up, and for a little while was up when
ronald-ann didn't think it was in the cell. If you know a good way to
check the databases, please do (and tell me).
Relevant issues (that is, things that aren't fodder for sipb-haters):
o Lou said he was going to send me some mail that I didn't get...
Did it go to someone else instead?
o Someone must be in the office at 9am tomorrow for when the service
rep. calls.
o Rosebud must be ready to go down and lose it's hdisk2 sometime
after 9am tomorrow. I recomend moving all volumes off of the drive
ASAP, but there are other things involved. (discussion to
sipb-afsreq)
Thanks to John Carr, John Chase, and Lou for dealing with this.
