Today, when I was trying to fix up the symlink mess for the sun install
dirs in the sipb volume, I blew away sun4bin. I did not know that it
was a mountpoint to an non-replicated, non-backed up volume in the
athena cell. This is unfortunate, because it means that most of those
binaries have been lost forever. I created a replicated, backed-up
volume called ``project.sipb.sun'' in the sipb cell, mounted it on
sun4bin in the read-write copy of the sipb cell. I am presently going
through the sun build tree, porting things to Solaris and installing
them. I don't know how long this will take. I'll try to do the
high-usage programs first.
I am not going to apologize for this slip because it's obvious that
whoever made the decision that none of the sun binaries need to be
backed up has made everyone pay for it. Of course that was not an
individual. I may have even been at the meeting where it was decided,
and said nothing, so I may share the blame. You get what's coming. If
other people want to help me out, I'd appreciate it.
