patches on ftp.uu.net are over a year old, so it's not surprising that
it doesn't configure on Solaris. Perhaps you should use trn instead.
Rn is, in fact, still being maintained. It's just that the maintainer
of it tends to make big releases infrequently, rather than smaller
releases frequently. It's also not the highest thing on his priority
list. Solaris 2.x machines in production environments are a pretty
new thing, newer than the last big rn release.
Of course, the other reason rn has so much trouble configuring under
Solaris is because Solaris changed (read "broke") so many things in
ways that no other UNIX variant has ever changed before. That's
progress for you.
