The reason for lossage is, it doesn't find the 600dpi fonts.
You should change
> P /mit/nihongo/lib/jtex/jfonts:/usr/athena/lib/tex/fonts:/afs/sipb/project/ou
> tland/lib/tex/fonts/tfm:/afs/sipb/project/outland/libtex/fonts/pk
to
> P /mit/nihongo/lib/jtex/jfonts:/usr/athena/lib/tex/fonts:/afs/sipb/project/ou
> tland/lib/tex/fonts/tfm:/afs/sipb/project/outland/lib/tex/fonts/pk
put a slash here ^
and that will fix the problem.
