   I'm using it this morning on a VS3100.  Something's
   different: when I lock the screen from the menu, an
   "X" cursor is still visible when I move the mouse.

The behavior is correct.  The mouse has to be visible so that users
can use it to press the logout button after it pops up.  Notice that
if you don't move it for a while, it goes away.
