xrn is so extremely slow these days that it is almost useless. I
just waited over ten minutes for it to switch from one newsgroup to
the next.
Unfortunately, we are currently somewhat low on disk space to store
news on the news server. As a result, we have to run the "expire"
program to remove old news articles twice per day, at noon and
midnight, instead of just once. Expire runs for several hours and
puts a significant amount of load on the machine, which slows things
down.
We are working on getting more disk space, and when we do, we will be
able to run expire only once, at midnight. Performance will improve
at that time.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
