For some reason, I'm only getting the "?" out of latex when an error
occurs. The RT version prints the error message and the line causing
the complaint.
I've seen the problem before, too (and I think I reported it). When it
happened to me, it was intermittent --- running latex again might give
you the error message, or sometimes part (?) of the error message.
Annoying, to say the least.
