I checked through the past athena-ws messages. Much of the
discussion is very old, and some objections become less and less
meaningful with time. Athena has changed the typical user's environment
so much that the argument that lineedit isn't "standard Unix" is
particularly irrelevant.
The last official word I saw on it was in suggest#1071
(05/09/91), where mar said "[The release committee] assigned someone ...
the task of making a list [of differences]. In any case, said comparison
list never got made, so we tabled taking any action on this until a
later release.".
Perhaps it could be taken off the table?
