Did you use the switch (below) which switched the computers and
their monitor and keyboard? There is a KVM switch at about knee height
which switches Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (hence KVM) from one CPU to the
other. When we installed it, it worked really well-- really well. If
somebody has already messed around with the wiring, we'll have to make it
more foolproof. See way below for further documentation...

</smaller>The KVM switch has an SGI keyboard hooked up to it. Actually,
the SGI is completely PC compatible, so, you could use a PC keyboard. To
hook up to the SUN, there is a Sun adapter under the CPU. Sorry, can't
use a Sun keyboard and go the other way. Doesn't work. The Sun has a
proprietary integral keyboard and mouse. Yes, Sun has some extra keys,
and there are some simple mappings for these keys. We too, are trying to
get into the room to post these keyboard mappings under the glass, but
were unable to get into the room due to the density of its class
schedule.

This workstation setup worked quite well when we set it up. You do have
to hit that KVM switch to switch back and forth between SGI and SUN (I
mean, how else would it work?). I logged into Athena on both machines,
and it worked quite well. I'm sorry about the lack of SUN keys, but well
put that note under the glass really soon (Monday?).

Read on about "foolproof":

If someone has already messed with the wiring in just 48 hours, I'd
believe it. Here's a story about people who know too much...

3-133 and some older classrooms have three gun, RGB video projectors.
Projectors like these need to be 'converged' when using computers with
different scan rates, the red, green, and blue guns need to be tweaked
*electronically* so that they line up. We put a dot or linear pattern up
on the screen and tweak the guns so that the red, green, and blue pixels
line up on top of one another.

When you hit a three gun projector with a new and very different computer
scan rate, these pixels don't line up so well. What do some people do?
They assume that the projector is out of focus. They stand on a chair and
twist the lenses! Now the machine looks lousy for everybody.
