Concurrent with the usual 6am Sunday morning retart on Jan. 9, all
Athena AFS fileservers and database servers will update to running AFS
version 3.5. The upgrade will not affect the usual restart and thus
should be user visible.
One minor side effect that has been noted is that Linux and NetBSD AFS
3.3 clients, such as were distributed with the SIPB-Athena distributions
of Linux and NetBSD, may experience console messages of:
afs: rxi_SendAck: niovecs == #, not 2!
(where # is some number greater than 2)
when reading data from a 3.5 server.These messages are harmless.
They're the result of a debugging statement left in these older clients,
and can be safely ignored.
This is a significant upgrade. We do not anticipate any problems or
outages resulting from this upgrade, but please contact Ops if any
occur.
