From: hoffmann@MIT.EDU Date: Fri, 12 Apr 1996 00:31:35 -0400 To: helpstaff@MIT.EDU, cfyi@MIT.EDU Cc: postmaster@MIT.EDU, hotline@MIT.EDU We had a disk filling incident on PO9 Thursday afternoon. The message below will be "lert"ed to affected Athena users. We don't have a way to distinguish or notify non-Athena PO users such as TechMail or Eudora users. The corruption problem alluded to below in the "lert" message may cause Eudora and TechMail to fail to parse some partial messages in the user's mailbox. We believe we have repaired user mailboxes such that this problem will only be evident for one message retrieval. Please notify postmaster@mit.edu of users reporting persistent problems. Athena users who have problems and contact the IT helpdesk should be put in touch with the Athena consultants first. -Ron Hoffmann <postmaster@mit.edu> Referenced Lert message: During the afternoon of Thursday April 11, the disk on the Post Office server PO9.MIT.EDU filled causing corruption of mailboxes and some delivery delays. Your mailbox was one one of the boxes where corruption was found. We have made every attempt to salvage all information possible. As a result of this you may have received one or more truncated or duplicate messages. As a result of the disk filling, it is possible that messages were lost or returned to the sender. If you find you are having persistent problems, contact the Athena Online Consultants either by using the 'olc' command or by calling x3-4435. We apologize for the inconvenience.
