ajax not printing

ajax is not printing. it's got a queue about 80 jobs long, giving the
message:
PAPER-PUSHER.MIT.EDU... Printer Error: may need attention! (paper out)
the printer is not out of paper, and the hardware doesn't seem to think
it is either (it prints a 00 READY message).
as a note, the queue should probably be flushed before printing is
enabled, since the first job on the list is apparently a couple hours
old.
