Brian figured out that the drive was not spinning up, and fixed it by
opening the case and patting the drive to free the stuck head.  The
drive had not been logging errors?

Would it be wise to replace this drive?

Sounds like a good idea. Send hotline the ok to replace disk after you have
copy off anything you keep local on it.
