talos, an Athena AFS server, may be out of service tomorrow morning
for hardware maintenance. One of its disks (an RA90) started logging
lots of soft errors yesterday. Since this is usually a predictor
of major failures on this type of disk, we're moving everything off
the disk (the vicepa and vicepb partitions). Tomorrow morning at
8:30, DEC field service will be here to look at it. If it is possible
to run diags/fix the problem without interrupting service, that's what
we'll do. If it's necssary to take the system out of service, I'll
let you know.
