Hi,
I attended the Windows 3.1 Professional Developers Conference in Seattle, WA
this past week. Here's what happened:
+ Windows 3.1 to be released by the end of this year
Features:
+ Object Linking and Embedding
+ Dynamic Data Exchange Management Library
+ Drag and Drop
+ Pen Extensions
+ Redesigned file manager
+ New Help Engine with segmented hypergraphics
+ Extensible Control Panel
We will have the next Beta (Beta 2) Release in about 2 weeeks.
+ Multimedia Extensions for 3.0 and 3.1
Features:
+ Simply amazing
+ Almost full motion video using standard VGA mode w/256 colors
+ Great Sound capability
+ Simple API
+ Available now for $500
I am attempting to get this free, it's a truly amazing package...
+ Windows NT
Features:
+ Multi-threaded, symmetric multi-tasking
+ Pre-emptive
+ Enhanced GDI with Bezier curves
+ New file system with long names
+ Will run DOS, Old Windows and 32-bit Windows apps
+ Runs on 386, 486, and MIPS
+ C2 secure (requires login, etc.)
Release set sometime in 92.
Microsoft stressed it commitment to Windows. This product line is what will
carry them into the future. It seems to be a truly great line. Windows NT will
bring the PC into the real ballgame again and should keep Microsoft on top.
I will be giving a more detailed presentation sometime next week for any who
would like to attend. I think we should really consider integrating Windows
into the Athena environment to the point of public clusters. It will be a while
before NT is available though, so we have plenty of time.
