X11R5:
A new R5 locker is now available. You can reach it now by attaching
"x11r5nu". This locker contains the basic non-shared libraries and
binaries for the Sun Solaris 2.1, RISC/6000 AIX 3.2, DECstation Ultrix
4.2a, and VAX BSD 4.3 platforms. Features of the new locker include:
- the sources match the binaries
- someone is maintaining it
Sometime in the next week or two, "x11r5" will be changed to be the
new locker instead of the old one. I don't expect this to cause any
problems for anyone, but am being cautious about things just in case
it does. (Site note: I've just noticed phigs is lacking for some
reason on the Sun and RS/6000. I'll fix that soon.)
Motif 1.2.2:
The locker "motif1.2" contains libraries for Motif 1.2.2 for the Sun
Solaris 2.1, RISC/6000 AIX 3.2, and DECstation Ultrix 4.2a platforms.
The VAX libraries have not yet been built, as the job seems to have
turned in to a large amount of work for little return. That is, the
demand for the Vax libraries is not clear.
Also, I haven't figured out how to get the manual pages formatted yet,
so that operation is awaiting more attention. However, I expect the
man pages in the motif 1.1 locker to be suitable in the meantime, as
1.2 is supposed to be very compatible with 1.1. (This is an OSF
assertion, but I have compiled a 1.1 app against 1.2 with no
problems.)
Fyi: Motif 1.2.3 apparently is or will be available soon. We're
looking in to this.
Remember that applications linking against Motif 1.2 must also link
against X11R5.
Wcl:
Some time before October 29, the wcl locker will updated so that Wcl
uses include files from the new x11r5 locker, and so that Ari and Mri
link against the new x11r5 and motif1.2 lockers. If you are writing
applications that use wcl, please send email to brlewis@MIT.EDU so that
we can make sure your development is not disrupted by the change.
Other questions should be directed to me (cfields). Please forward
this information to other interested parties.
Thank you for your attention,
Craig Fields
