MIT's Information Systems group seeks an individual to join a team which
maintains the base Unix software for more than a thousand Unix workstations and
200 servers distributed throughout our campus. This individual will be part of
our efforts to continue the evolution of MIT's distributed computing
environment, based on the advances made earlier by Project Athena. These
workstations and servers provide a vast array of services such as electronic
mail, messaging and access to information resources, to students, faculty and
administrators at MIT.
Primary tasks will include designing, coding, debugging, testing, maintaining
and documenting Unix systems software. Will work as a member of team that
evaluates needs and develops documentation, training and support.
Technical understanding of major vendor operating systems and platforms, for
example, Digital's DECstations and Ultrix, Sun's SPARCstations and Solaris 2.0,
IBM's RS/6000s and AIX 3.2 is desirable. Familiarity with the needs of
university communities, large-scale Unix environments, UNIX software
engineering. TCP/IP networking, and C are also desirable. Candidates should be
prepared to demonstrate their interpersonal, organizational, oral and written
communications skills.
