Non-DCNS developers are welcome too. (All DCNS-Dev meetings are open to
anyone who wants to attend).

Please do RSVP to sao@Athena.MIT.EDU (Andy Oakland) if you are going to
attend so he can make the room big enough.

In November, ASD held a two day "Introduction to Project Management"
training session. Two spies from DCNS, Andy Oakland and Scott Thorne,
also attended the class. It covered general project management tools and
concepts, with a special focus on software projects.

Scott and I both found it worthwhile, and thought that other DCNS members
would also get something out of the class. Our managers are considering
inviting back the consultants who held the class for another session.

To give you the flavor of what would be taught, Scott and I are putting
together a one-hour Reader's Digest version of the two-day seminar, which
we'll be presenting at our group meeting next week. Other members of DCNS
are invited to attend, as well. Topics will include:

 - Defining the scope of a project
 - Constructing work breakdown structures
 - Developing accurate time and effort estimates
 - Setting a schedule for a project, and adjusting it dynamically if needed

One thing I found refreshing about the seminar is that they do not push
these methods and tools as a one-size-fits-all solution for all projects
and all people. Rather, it's a collection of individual tools which can
be used as appropriate for particular projects.

The meeting will be from 3:00 to 4:30 in E40-382 (The large conference
room) on 12/9. If you plan to attend and do not normally come to our
group meetings, please let me know so I have a rough head count.
