Subject: Initial Announcement Stuff

We'll get more after the video broadcast (DVN) on Thursday, but here's the
initial stuff ------

                        MESSAGE FROM ROSE ANN GIORDANO

On January 22 Digital will announce the most significant step towards realizing
our long-term UNIX strategy in real products. On that day, at UNIFORUM in San
Francisco, we will announce DEC OSF/1 Version 1.0 -- the full production
developers' version of the OSF/1 operating system. We said we'd do it, we said
we'd be first, and on January 22 Digital will deliver on our OSF/1 promises.

This announcement will also include program details of the full end-user OSF/1
release coming this summer, and several key applications languages and tools
that will be available under our OSF/1 implementation.

There are five simple messages to remember about Digital and OSF/1:

For everyone: * Digital's UNIX strategy is OSF/1

For end users: * OSF/1 is the UNIX with the Features and the Future
                    * OSF/1 Supports the Applications Customers Want

For ISVs: * OSF/1 is the ticket to the next big opportunity
                    * Get there first by partnering with Digital

This is hot stuff! The OSF/1 market will be huge, and Digital is there first.
OSF/1 applications will run on Intel, MIPS, and Alpha platforms. They will be
highly transportable. Others say that Open Computing is their own proprietary
version of UNIX running on their own proprietary CPU. Digital says Open
Computing is open software running on open technology. And on January 22, we'll
prove it.

You can use the products we're announcing on January 22 to help you close
business now. And to help you do that, we will broadcast a special, one-hour
OSF/1 Training DVN on Thursday, January 16 at 1:00 P.M. EST. You'll learn about
Digital's UNIX Strategy; about our exciting new OSF/1 products and programs;
and you'll learn all the details that support our five key OSF/1 messages.

                                        - Rose Ann Giordano -
