Reminder: This Wednesday at 10:00, in the E40 3rd floor Visitor's Center,
I'll be demonstrating my prototype of an electronic forms management and
routing system. While the prototype is far too incomplete to be used as
a production application, it does a fine job of demonstrating the basic
workings of such a system.
A description of the form description language which is used by this prototype
is available in transactions 3-5 in the "forms" discuss meeting on menelaus.
After the demonstration, which should take about half an hour, I'd like
to have a discussion about the direction of further work on the system.
Topics for this discussion will include at least:
What needs to be added to make this a "real" system?
-Security. How much, what type?
-New input field types. Suggestions for particular ones?
-An underlying DBMS. What's already in use elsewhere?
-Conversion to client/server protocol.
-Anything else?
Locations for a possible first application of the system?
-Add/drop form.
-Vacation forms.
-Change-of-address.
-Library queries.
-Suggestions?
I expect the discussion to run about an hour. I'd like to get an idea
of about how many people are planning to show up, so if you think you'll
be attending, I'd appreciate getting a note. Thanks!
