I am suspicious of military campaigns in the name of humanitarianism. Both NATO/US
and President Milosevic understand the destabilizing effect of refugees. Milosevic
wants to herd them out of Yugoslavia, NATO/US wants to contain them; a pressure
cooker.
Was there a CIA role in the collapse of Albania that made weapons available at
bargain basement prices to the Kosovar Albanian rebels with whom NATO is now allied?
What is NATO protecting by using such an overwhelming asymmetric show of force.
Whose hearts do they hope to win? What operations can we not afford to abandon.
Russia sees NATO/Europe/US chipping away at the edges of the Union that was a
superpower not so long ago. Would this NATO/US expansionism have taken place if
Russia was not perceived as weak. And what contingencies does NATO have for rustling
the Bear from his slumber? The use of US B2 bombers was to test the Russian response
to deployment of strategic weapons systems, and as a warning.
Is there yet enough incentive to restart a cold war? The game will get dirtier. I
hope Clinton knows what the fuck he's doing, or, lacking him, the Russians.
