actually AOL itself is a great place to start hacking. Your best bet would be to approach other AOL users like yourself and form a hackers club, since some of the most brilliant minds are on AOL. It's the in thing *today*
Some of the best people to approach would be your local AOL service providers, since they are mostly former hackers and they would really love to help otfher hackers and beginners. Actually they have this 'Admin for a day' scheme where YOU (yes YOU, or any other AOL user) gets to be the administrator of the ENTIRE aol network for a day. You get to make ALL decisions and you're given a free hand to do ANYTHING you think is OK with you. If the top AOL guys like it, you even get a chance to work at AOL as administrator. I think this is a golden opportunity and shouldn't be missed. My neighbour is the AOL administrator for the entire western US, and how did he get there?.... by participating in the 'administrator for a day' scheme.
If you can't do this, approach your AOL guys, and VERY politely ask them for administrator passwords. These people are usually very generous and will oblige. If taht doesn't work, send the AOL administrators and all other AOL users thousands of mails every day, maybe even every hour, so that they know you mean business. This way, they better do what you want - it has worked for me, and I have AOL admin passwords for a lot of servers.
There is a really humane underside to AOL, where they really uinderstand the needs of us hackers. they will go all out to help beginner hackers. I know it for sure. All you have to do is ASK.
The other thihg you could do is child pornography. Go search the web, search newsgroups and locate child pornography sites. Now that you have located them, download as many child porn pictures and fill up your hard disk. The AOL managers are usually touchy when it comes to child porn, and rthey know that someone like you _REALLY_ means business. Call up AOL and _SHOW_ them your pictures - they will know you really mean business, and will oblige you witl passwords anhd hacking tips after this.
Social engineering is a really great thing to do. Most hackers are great social engineers. Social engineering means putting a gun to your AOL rep's head and threatening to blow his brains all over north america if he doesn't give you hacking tips. Usually works for me. in the event that he doesn't comply (he usualy does), be prepared to actually carry out your threat. this way, the other AOL admin people will be scared enough and will oblige you after this. It has worked for me after I blew 4 AOL managers. BTW, I use a Walther - it is a really great gun.
