Quoting from Vin Suprynowicz' column:
: It isn't any of the first two, of course. And even if it has become
: "police procedure," Undersheriff Richard Winget insists the program is
: entirely "voluntary" -- that in fact it was the owners of such residential
: inns who "came to us and asked us to assist them to keep
: their complexes as reasonably safe as possible."

If it isn't one thing, it's another - if it isn't the govmt agencies proposing
intrusive protection, then it's the citizens asking for it. Wonder if this
isn't part of that 'dumbing down of America' in the public schools, that I've
read about.
After World War II, movie goers had a reference, an example, of gestapo
procedures which they could identify as something to boo. But not having that
recent experience, it seems many cannot imagine what the problem could be with
such a state of existence.
