This is being sent anonymously because I am a Sun employee.
What Scott likely meant by his comment is that the modern world
is such that there is no privacy in reality (not that he doesn't
support privacy).
Scott has been outspoken on the encryption issue against the
United States Government and has told them that the encryption
genie is out of the bottle and to "get over it."
The same thing was meant by his comment about privacy generally.
There are so many ways to get information on someone, that the
reality whether we like it or not is that privacy is an illusion,
especially as against the United States government.
In summary, "Scooter" (McNealy) is 100% correct in his
observation. an observation about reality is not an endorsement!
Someday, if I am lucky I'll get to work with someone of his
caliber.
Anonymously at Sun Microsystems, Inc.
A great company and an even greater CEO.
