Uncompromised? There's no hope of the internet being an
uncompromised instrument of democracy in countries whose
governments are inherently undemocratic, and who by their very
nature control the flow of internet traffic in said countries. No,
while the internet could serve as one catalyst for reform in China,
it will not single-handedly bend Chinese government to democracy.
My hope is that the internet will one day help to bring democracy back
to the United States, a country already purported to have a democratic
government. I'll wish for that before I even start to entertain hopes for
such reform in non-democratic countries.
