Subject: WCA January Meeting Notice
Mime-Version: 1.0
The January meeting of the Wireless Communications Alliance
(WCA) will take place Tuesday, 1/19, at 4:00 PM at Hewlett-
Packard in Santa Clara. The WCA, a nonprofit corporation,
is dedicated to the mutual benefit of area companies and
organizations involved in wireless communications technologies.
The program for the meeting is:
.
- Dr. Oliver Hilsenrath, President and CEO of US Wireless
Corporation, will present: "Multipath in Cellular Networks:
Impediment or Opportunity?" US Wireless has conducted
extensive studies and field trials that lead to an
understanding of the opportunities in multipath, providing
coverage in environments lacking line of sight, and the
correlation between multipath pattern and the physical
location of a wireless caller. This tight correlation
between multipath pattern and physical location gave birth
to US Wireless' proprietary Location Fingerprinting
technology and the RadioCamera(TM), an efficient and cost-
effective method of locating and tracking cellular callers
for wireless 911 and other value-added applications for the
cellular road warrior.
.
- Professor Donald Cox of Stanford University will present
"Broadband Wireless Access: A Perspective". This talk was
prepared for a workshop on Broadband Wireless Access and is
aimed more at provoking thought and raising issues than at
providing precise answers. Some of the issues addressed are
a) Data rate, range and power relationships, b) Two-way
asymmetrical link data rate limitations, c) Challenges for
frequencies above 20 GHz, and d) Factors limiting line-of-
sight. Issues are discussed and possibilities are presented
within the context of recent wireless industry history and
experiences. The perspectives presented are based on the
speaker's experience over the last 30 years.
.
LOCATION: Hewlett-Packard at 5301 Stevens Creek Blvd in Santa
Clara. From San Jose on FWY 280, exit at Lawrence Expressway
