You weren't at all worried about CO? It takes a while to free up your
haemoglobin once it's attached to a CO...I don't recall the time
constant.

Drinking water is easy - 15 or 20 1 gal jugs/month is probably OK
depending on climate.
Such extravagances as washing are another matter, still, you should be
able to stay presentable with a couple of gallons a day. Pound your
clothes on the rocks down by the river.
Get a pool - 20K gallons will do you for quite a while. Plus, if the
Road Warrior/Boy and His Dog Y2K scenario doesn't come to pass they're
still great on a hot summer day.

For non-mansions:
Oil burner - around 1/2 - 3/4 HP
Gas burner - less than 100W - it's little more than a solenoid.
Forced air fan - 3/4 - 2 HP
Baseboard HW circulator - 100 - 200 W
110v or 220v - I can't remember now. Either way, pretty standard.
I think 1 HP is 746 watts.

From a wattage standpoint - no problem. I don't know about motors as
loads. You may have to derate the capacity a bit *and* account for
startup currents. I think that's one of the issues with running
refrigeration compressors off small generators.

Not likely. Find an old VW gas heater. They're basically a tiny furnace
that runs off 12V and would probably warm one well-insulated room. The
heated air is *separate* from the combustion flow.
Store some firewood in your garage.
Anyone taking bets on the nature of the Y2K computer fuckup? Worldwide
depression and leather-clad cannibals roaming the wastelands or some
inconvenient glitches?
