Hi there,
My name is Sami Abdel-Malek and I am the subject caller
for the Brain and Cognitive Science Department at MIT (Course 9). I act as
a liaison between psychology experimenters (usually graduate students), and
anyone who is interested in participating FOR PAY as subjects in their
experiments. The experiments are simple and usually fun. They do not last for
more than an hour long, and there is a large variety from which to choose from.
These experiments are carried out all year long and are constantly changing.
You can choose to participate in as many as you want whenever you want.
I am in charge of the scheduling of appointments for the various
experiments. I send out e-mail to all those interested twice a week informing
them about the experiments running during the week. Anyone who is interested
will then respond to my email, telling me which experiment(s) they are
interested in, and what hours they are available during the week. I then
give out appointments on a first come first serve basis. It is a very easy
process.
The two times I send out email are Tuesday nights and Friday nights.
Please try to respond as soon as possible and get your requests in.
Some of these experiments will fill up quick so in order to guarantee your
choice of experiments, you need to respond quickly. Also, please be specific
and detailed when telling me your experiment preferences and the hours of each
day in which you are free to do the experiment. This will make things so much
easier for me and will also prevent mistakes or inconvenient appointments.
Since a new semester has started, I need to update my records of all
the subjects who have participated in experiments before, as well as
incorporate any new people interested in being subjects. In order to receive
the latest updated information, I ask that everyone who is interested in
being a subject, whether continuing or new, to fill out a Subject Information
Card. You can fill one up by going to E10-218 and asking to fill one out,
or by emailing me back information to the following questions:

I would also like to take the opportunity to supply you with
information on the experiments that will be running during the week of
Monday September 11 through Saturday September 16. This will give you some
sort of idea about what kind of experiments are offered, for those of you who
are new to this. I provide a brief description, restrictions/qualifications,
length of duration, amount of money being paid, and the hours of availability
during the week. You then need to look carefully at the information,
especially the restrictions to see if you are interested and qualify for
participating in any experiments. Then you are to choose the best time for you
and send it all back to me along with your full name and a phone number where
you may be reached. I will then send you your alotted appointment from
whatever hours are remaining.
Here is a list of the experiments running next week:
