During my senior year at Michigan School for the Deaf, a Deaf
librarian who was an offspring of Deaf parents, and Gallaudet graduate,
called me to show up at her desk in library. She accused me for not
returning a book and showed me the overdue card of book which appeared
to have my signature on. She continued on telling me that if I don't
return this book before graduation day, and that she had the authority
not to allow me graduate. I was very stunned. I signed back and
explained, "THAT BOOK TITLE NEVER SEE BEFORE.... THAT CARD MY NAME
SIGNED FALSE SOMEONE ELSE...". I even showed my signature and compared
it with the "forgery" signature. She said, "ME SEE ZERO DIFFERENCE AND
THAT BOOK YOU MUST BRING-RETURN". I said, " I THAT BOOK NOT HAVE I".
She said, "YOU CAN'T GRADUATE YOU NO!" which ticked me off and I somehow
slipped out swearing a few bad words during this argument. Then I
complained to my teacher about the librarian's accusation and my
graduation being refused. She told me not to worry about this.
About two weeks later, when we all attended the auditorium, they
showed a home-made film called "Candid Camera". Of course, our argument
in library was filmed!. Everyone bursted out laughing when my swearing
was shown! I felt like a big fool after I realized that the library
scene was all act and wished that I could slide down the seat and crawl
sneaking out of the auditorium!
The candid camera showed another funny scene in library where
another Deaf student was also fooled by the same librarian. When she
informed him that his fly was opened, he turned his back to the
librarian and unknowingly faced the hidden camera zipping up his fly!
What a riot laugh!
