Back-to-School time is here, and along with it hordes of returning
students.
Traditionally, this also results in a flood of random flamages,
editorial debates and inappropriate sendings to the humor@mit list
(you old timers know what I mean, and I'd just as well not teach you
newcomers).
Fortunately, froshling brains are quick, resiliant things and they soon
learn their manners, so we need only wait.
THEREFORE, effective today the "humor@mit" email list will go private
until the beginning of October, thereby allowing things to settle down a
bit before I let everyone access the list directly. Meanwhile, users who
wish to be added or removed should please email "abennett@mit.edu" for a
change in status.
And while I have the soap-box:
If you are receiving "humor@mit" mailings and did *not* subscribe to the
list, CHECK THE HEADER! Someone either a) added you without your
permission (this is a *major* no-no), or b) is probably forwarding the
messages to you. If you don't want them, simply ask them to stop
sending.
Finally, the quick annual editorial (gee, can you tell the types of
messages I have been getting this week? :> ):
The "humor@mit" list is my own private little list, created
because my alias file was getting out of hand. Everyone on
it is there at mutual sufferance (I suffer your presence, you
suffer my taste ;) ). I am happy that so many folks from all
over the planet enjoy this list. I always welcome submissions,
and try to give credit where credit is due (or where blame can
be laid). Factual corrections are always welcome, as are
suggestions on how to improve things. Editorials and flamages
on the relative merits of postings are *not* appreciated and
will be flushed (but we always welcome political jokes!).
Thank you for your cooperation.
-Drew
