I've spent a few days looking into updating Open Inventor for the
Athena release.

Through experimentation I've found that properly installing the
updated software will at the least require me to copy all of the SGI
software we have in AFS now (roughly two gig of stuff) to a local
disk, run inst against that and cross my fingers, then copy it all
back out to AFS and see if it works or not.

Given my experience so far, I'd guess this should take around a week
of work, and that's assuming I don't come up against any intractable
problems (which is not inconceivable given the way the whole package
is broken up into multiple volumes via symlinks).

So the question is (I think), is this worth the investment, and the
potential risk that it might not work?
